Good day amazing person who is reading these words. The Journey of Lyle over the past few years has changed and evolved a bit. Long time readers have probably seen some of those changes, but then there may not be any long time readers… I have for several months (if not longer) been planning updates and revisions to the site. I have also for over a year been planning to some other things. However for a plethora of reason I keep getting distracted, keep restarting the changes and more. However with this note, I make a commitment to myself to take the time to design and implement a new site design and to get some of my other projects off the ground.

In the next few weeks the following is anticipated to take place:

A redesign of JourneyOfLyle.com

An initial design and launch of another site. (details to come)

A redesign and re-launch of my mother’s handcrafted soap site

Some backend changes to JourneyOfLyle.com

As a result of the planed changes there is a slight possibility that some links to Journey Of Lyle may not function. I believe I have everything in place so that all old links should work, but just incase wanted to let you know of the possibility. If you have links, or bookmarks/favorites that point to this blog using a domain name other than JourneyOfLyle.com there is a slight chance of an issue. Greater chance if using a subdomain (something like blog.old domain.com), I believe I have all the redirects set up for when I make the changes, but just incase you may want to consider updating links to use JourneyOfLyle.com. Also as I move things over, there is a chance I will mess up and set the permalink structure differently, in which case links to particular posts may change a bit. So, while the content will be there, and while your link will still reach the blog, it may not end up on a particular post. Any links to the homepage should continue to work just fine.

I do not have a firm eta on these changes, in part as I still have a lot to do on the design end of things. However I do not anticipate noticeable changes to appear for at least two weeks as I have a very busy schedule for the next few weeks. If anyone is interested in helping with any of the design stuff, feel free to volunteer. Or if you have ideas of what things should look like let me know…

Peace

Hello, amazing and wonderful person(s) who is(are) reading this. Tomorrow evening (Thursday 8 April 2010) I will be getting into motorized vehicle and starting the 13 hour or so trip to Independence, MO where I will have the opportunity to share in worship, fellowship, discussion, and legislative sessions with my sisters and brothers from around the Globe. As I do so, I will see many people I have not seen for some time, and I will hope that we as Community of Christ can in our actions reflect our willingness to embrace our calling and live up to our enduring principles / core values. I know I will be reflecting during that time, even writing a bit here and there (shocker) but I do not know what opportunities I will have to share via this medium….

So I was thinking, what can I do? Well I’ll have my computer, and if I have internet access I will try and post at some point. However in case I do not, I decided to embrace a service that I have no desire to embrace. In the side bar you will see “short bits” Here you will see my three most recent “tweets” from conference. I doubt I’ll make many, it’s just not my thing, but I want to be able to share in some way. I may also do status updates on Face Book for those who are my friends and family to see. (as I can do these things on my phone) So via twitter you will be able to see it real time, and at the end of the week a post will hopefully be created that places it all here… we will see how this works.

After Conference I will hopefully have the time to start writing more theological, mission and or scriptural reflection and engagement posts, and the “Short bits” will disappear

Peace be with you,

I just wanted to share the joy that fills my hear this morning. I left my apartment and was greeted by the brilliant sun and blue sky. As I walked toward my car I looked out upon the lake, and what was just a few days ago largely white with ice except further out, and then a mix of blue and white now has but a bit of white in the distance, and a wonderful blue greeted me closer by. I didn’t walk all the way up to it, so perhaps by the shore it was a bit white as well, though I did see the moving of a small wave. Still no ocean, but the colours were a sight to be seen. Beyond this joy I also wanted to mentioned I am working on several written pieces, some which may appear here.

This morning I started one for here about giving and stewardship, however I accidently lost the post, but plan to re-craft it in near future. Also some reflection on what is church, with a primary focus I think upon the local expression is also in the works, and has been for a week or so. If it gets finished I am sure it shall appear at least in part here, as I see it a continuation of the “Building the peaceable community (Zion)” series. In fact it is currently titled “Building the Peaceable Community (Zion): pt4 Church.” I am also starting to work on a couple of sermons, (31 Jan and 21 March) both which are primarily in the “thought and early reflection stage” I doubt I will get further on either until after the webcast on Sunday by Prophet-Present Steve Veazey as he shares words of guidance and inspired council to the church. I am also working on a few things things about liturgical theology, peace and justice… Mixed in this as well are things that may come to form as I reflect upon the congregation and work with my fellow pastors in helping to serve with the Kirtland Community of Christ.

So yes there’s a lot on my plate writing wise. the struggle is less with the thoughts, but bringing them together. As often of late the ideas are running through my head, when I’m in the car, spending time with friends, working on 6 in pipes with a friend, watching a child or two run around and play, or in the shower… where I can’t just write the thoughts down, and when I get to where I can the wonderful metaphors, explorations, and thoughts are not as full and refuse to take shape again. But I’m going to try and set aside time to write. As I try and arrange things I may also end up re-arranging my dwelling place, and perhaps that shall lead to a more productive environment… or is it just a new distraction?

Beyond all this I have also realized I haven’t been reading a lot lately, well not reading a lot of long pieces, you know long journal articles or books… So I’m going to start tackling that as well. I think I’ll start by reading through some of those books on the bookshelves’ that I never finished either as they were not assigned or I just ran out of time…. Or perhaps the one sitting on my bedside table, a book never assigned which I started a while back and then kinda forgot it was there till today when I saw it there along with a roll of electrical tape…. no I have no idea why the tape is there.

Time to reflect on other things,

Peace be with you,
