It has been almost a month since I last wrote. Since that time many things have taken place, or continue to do so. The leaves of tress still are falling, though now it seems most trees are bare. The weather got colder and then warmer, and then colder again, an endless cycle so it seems. Class sessions have passed by, papers written, items read. Once more have I cycled around the sun. In ways it is a time of change, and yet in ways it is just the continuation of seemingly, and perhaps, endless cycles. Some more so than others.
The nation I live in has decided to once again to divided the executive and legislative branches of government between more than one political party, and thus perhaps a greater chance is on the horizon for a government that better reflects the multitude of views found within its borders. Though I long for the day when there are no borders and we live as one large human family, embracing and sharing our many cultures and traditions without fear but with love and acceptance. Thus I look forward to March, when I will for a week I will get to experience that dreamed for community of humanity in a smaller scale as I worship and share with my sisters and brothers from around the globe.
The lectionary year is drawing to a close and a new year is about to burst forth. Will those who are members of Community of Christ truly step forth and embrace their call and the theme of this new year to “Share the Peace of Christ”? Will others embrace with us that call to share peace? Will we one day all know, express, and reflect that peace to all we encounter, regardless of our differences of faith, belief, culture. . . ?
As this new year dawns, I now make a commitment to increase what this blog is for me. Along with the purposes it has served thus far, I will attempt to reflect on the some of the lectionary scriptures. My plan at present is to choose at least two Sundays each month, and reflect on one or two of the lectionary passages, and also the theme for that week. I hope to start this practice a few days before the new lectionary year (3-Dec-06). I will be reflecting on the Hebrew Scripture passage from Jeremiah and the Gospel passage from Luke that are assigned for the Third. It may be briefer or more in depth than those that will follow as in the next couple of weeks I will be witting a 15 page (plus probably 10000000 pages of appendixes) exegesis paper on these passages and thus may have more insight, or perhaps want to take a time-out from them. If all goes well I will write this reflection a few days before that Sunday.
Peace be with you
