Friday 18 Aug at approximately 10am (PDT, -7 GMT) My dad and I pulled away from my parents house in Oregon and started our drive to Ohio. leaving a couple of hours behind our original plan.
Upon arriving at the John Day Dam in the gorge,
We stopped and I took the wheel for the first of several times during our trip. We continued our journey and ended the day in a town off of I-84 a little past Twin Falls. In the morning we started once more on our drive and dropped down into Utah.
I drove a large portion of the Utah portion, and all but the start and end of Wyoming. There were many geographical features I wished to photograph in Wyoming as we drove, however as I was driving most of this portion I did not think my cat, dad, or other drivers would have been happy with me grabbing the camera and taking pictures while traveling 75 m/h down I-80, so I refrained,to ensure I could write these words.
We stopped at a rest stop in Nebraska for a few hours that night, then went on to another for the rest of the night. In the morning we picked up a hose for the radiator (to replace the one which had a small pinhole in it that we ducted taped the day before after it appeared). My dad put the new hose in and continued the drive through Nebraska, across Iowa, and into Illinois, before pausing for several hours for the night. In the morning we traveled the remainder of Illinois, through Indiana and into Ohio. Arriving at MTSO around 4:30 (EDT, -4 GMT), I checked in to let them know I was there and had arrived and get some information. We found a place to stay for the night and in the morning we traveled northward to one of the places I call “home.” Kirtland, Ohio. More specifically the “House of the Lord” (aka Kirtland Temple, aka Kirtland portion of the Temple).

I was surprised on how far along the construction of the new visitor’s center is.

Where I once lived, replaced with a pile of dirt.

It was great to be there, to take time to reflect, and to see everyone.
Today I found a place to live, and should be moving in tomorrow. It’s a lot larger than my old place in Seattle, and costs less. Not sure what I’m going to do with all the space. But I think I’ll manage. Today, I think I have found my new place. As I write this I am awaiting a phone call to see if I do indeed have an apartment. If I do indeed have a place, then my next goal is to find the nearby Community of Christ congregations, and decided which community(ies) I will worship, serve, and minister with regularly. We also may have found a car for me while we were in Kirtland, and thus soon I may have transportation. This is a good thing, as we ended up not bringing the bike, do to space concerns. (In fact, Thursday 17 Aug, sever adjustments were made and items removed and replaced while packing, as I had a bit more than would fit in the van and car top carrier, but not much.) Though Someday the bike will make it out here, I hope.
Tomorrow at 8 (EDT, -4 GMT) orientation starts, and Monday classes start, and thus my journey continues. . .
Peace,
