Presentation of Theologians and their theology

June 22, 2006 @ 9:39 am

I finally got around to uploading a few of the photos from my trip to Seattle on Monday. One of the pictures I took was of a piece of art in the first floor hall of Hunthausen Hall, home of the School of Theology and Ministry (STM). This particular piece of art, see bellow, was created from Paul Tillich’s Systematic Theology. As I looked at this photo, I reflected on my experiences with this particular theologian. In my undergraduate studies the way his theology was present I had a hard time with him, yet in my graduate studies the way he was presented I was able to gain from his works. Maybe it would be better to say in undergrad the presentation lead me to not favor Tillich’s writings, and thus not gain much from them while in graduate studies he was presented in a way which I could relate better to and thus gain insight from his work. . . Something along those lines. Thus I wonder if their might be other theologians who from my undergrad experience I was not able to gain much from, but if revisited in a different light I might gain something from. Then again maybe time changed me, but I think it had more to the different way and angle from which the different Professors guided the encounters.

Sytematic Theology - Paul Tillich

Sorry about the quality of the photo, the camera and I were having problems, ranging from the date impression being turned on, to appearing to be exposed correctly or over exposed, and then being underexposed upon review. If I have time I may play around with the images and fix it. (This is the best image, without doing any editing/touchup, of this piece of art that I took while up there on Monday)
Peace
